Do you know what the devil to your dreams looks like?
Do you know why we resort to procrastination and spend so much time with "entertainment" and escapism that you wonder where all the time went?
Do you dream for more? but every time you chase after it... the road seems too long and you give up due to not seeing results (or even slight progress) instantly.
There are a couple of reasons for this this but we will just start with the 2 most basic of principles.... Instant gratification and how you have been "trained".
I speak from experience here, with the awareness of making some of these serious mistakes myself. I've learnt the hard way. So I thought I would share to help you navigate the pitfalls.
What is instant gratification? The need to have things NOW. Not tomorrow.
Type something into google... get the answer. Scroll through your Facebook feed for hours, stopping... starting.... stopping..... starting. Training short term attention spans.
Want to buy a new product at 2 am in the morning? easy... order online, have it shipped in 2 days. You get the picture.
Scary thing is, Instant gratification blows out to larger decision making... life changing decisions!
Relationships.. Need a partner? Tinder will sort you out instantly if you'll take anything.
Want that new house? Just go and get a loan now, the bank said you can afford it... for the next 30 years with the 2 incomes you have coming in. After all, all your friends have a 4 bedroom house for 2 people.
You see the trap here? Maybe you don't!
That's OK! .... Until it isn't.
The days of expecting everything to come easy are very quickly disappearing.
REAL Wealth... Time... Money and happiness is drying up and being transferred with these decisions. The people who went for quick fixes are now on the back foot. Cheap credit and instant gratification actually have long term consequences.
It takes you 5 years, a marriage and kids to figure out that person you are with doesn't suit who you really are?
That home you got a loan for you can no longer afford due to relationship break down or loss of job?
What you are actually losing here is... not only sanity.. but more importantly.. time in the future. Time you spend working to pay child support, time you spend paying for that divorce or time spent worrying about mistakes and what the future could hold.
Also time is moving fast, the world does not have space for procrastination. Anyone procrastinating for extended periods of time will never attain their dream... or even survive potentially.
The days of poor investments and decisions are going to crush the daily household. Scary but true.
How to fix it.
Retrain your mind, Retrain your thoughts. More Importantly CHANGE the way you do things.
1. Instant Gratification.
Great things take time. Although they do not have to.
The beauty about this world is change can happen rapidly. We are blessed in this world with technology that can absolutely change your life within months. Anyone with a smartphone can find the answers or information about a particular subject.
Surround yourself with knowledgeable people! Find people who not only have your dream life now.. but also have the mindset you require to life with balance and success.
Wealth ans success (not just financial) can tip people over the edge if the balance is not suitably adjusted.
Think superstars who have tragically committed suicide or fallen from fame.
Surrounding yourself with success can create serious shortcuts to prosperity and you dream.
Key: Have a calendar and fill it!
Too much white space on your calendar gives you too much time to overthink, doubt, create stories as to why you shouldn't complete important tasks.
Fill your diary, fill your days. Go direct into action.
Time is money... time is precious.
Go all in.
Be Super Productive! not as easy as it sounds.
Set yourself a plan. WIN every morning.
Here is an outline example of my day, although not every day goes to plan. I do my best to make sure I follow this as best as possible. It keeps me balanced.
6.00 am Wake up. Exercise. Healthy Breakfast.
8:30 am 100% focused on work.
12:00 Midday Healthy Lunch
5:00 pm Focus on extra activities (Giving back to the community, Blog etc)
6:00 pm Time for Gym, Balance, Entertainment
7:00 pm Dinner with my partner and quality time with family
8:00 pm No technology
9:00 pm Bed time.
The biggest key I have found to remove instant gratification and remove procrastination is to keep a great balance of work, play, health, fitness and family.
You need to protect 4 things in life, Health, Wealth, Mindset, Spirit.
But that is a story for another post.
